Haiku Poem

Dol-Y-Moch was great
We all went mountain climbing
It was a challenge

We had hot chocolate
There was talking in the dorms
We all brushed our teeth

We sat around a camp fire
We were singing songs
We sat and watched the flames burn

It was a great laugh
We all looked up at the stars
When the sky went dark

Evening Reflections

Day 2 Groups A & B

Today Groups A & B joined forces for a morning adventure walk. Children had the challenge of finding their own way back to Dol-Y-Moch through marshy terrain and woodland using only a map and their common sense. Luckily we they had some and we all made it back safe and sound!

After lunch, we ventured to Criccieth Beach where we created stone and seaweed sculptures. The afternoon was finished with an ice-cream from the famous ice-cream shop in Criccieth.

Looking forward to tonight's activity... The Famous Night Line!

Day 2 Group C

Today was an action packed day, climbing up Moel Y Hydd and through a slate mine and eventually reaching the summit! It was exhausting but we all succeeded in plenty of time to absorb the amazing views. We had a candle lit lunch in the mine along with a well deserved hot chocolate!

Day 2 Preparation!

Making our sarnies!

Leo and Reuben had very interesting fillings...

A good breakfast will give us a good start for today's activities!

Day 1

Group A

Group B

Group C

Louise: Hi Mum and Dad – I’m having a really great time at DYM! I climbed up rocks and abseiled all the way down! Then we went in a mine FULL of cold water up to my bottom!!! Love you lots!

Sandra: It’s brilliant! I was really good at climbing.

Mari: I really enjoyed going in the mine but I was covered head to toe in water!

Amber: Today we got dropped off in the middle of the woods and I managed to use the map to find my way back to the DYM house. I’m having a really good time!

Morgan: Hi Mum! I went to the woods where we had to make our way back to DYM. I fell into a puddle of mud – I was covered up to my knees. It took us 2 hours to get back but we found our way eventually!

Joe: DYM has been brilliant so far! We went climbing on rocks at the seaside and kayaking in the lake.

Luke: I enjoyed kayaking in the lake by DYM.  I got to fall in backwards at the end.  Also, in the morning we got to rock climb near the sea.

Theo: Hi family – It’s great to be here! Even though some of you have already been, just want you to know that the house is really big and comfy.  Mr Jones is in my group and he is actually behaving (so far…!)

Kyra: I’ve enjoyed today so much! I know it’s October but we all had an ice cream – chocolate for me! Hi Kiza – I miss you and you’re going to love it here in a few years time!

Jack: I’ve enjoyed my 2 days at DYM so far! We did our first activities today but I keep on slipping over!

Sara: I went mountain climbing and I was scared at first but I liked abseiling down.  When I was scared Sandra helped me to stand up and keep going!

Luis: Having a brilliant time here again at DYM. I can’t wait to find out what our next activities as going to be!

Josh: I settled in well at DYM in my dorm. I enjoyed the long walk in the mountains because it really pushed me to the limits!

Matthew: I have enjoyed everything that I’ve done, I’ve improved my bed making skills.

Callum: I am enjoying Dol-Y-Moch and I have got better at making my bed. I loved finding creatures on the beach.

Gaganpreet: When I came to Dol-Y-Moch I was nervous. We went climbing and I found it difficult, however after practise I became more confident.

Umar: I am really enjoying Dol-Y-Moch, my favourite part is the mine so far.

Harry: In kayaking, I was scared that I was capsizing, but I never did and I really enjoyed it. I was nervous at the start. At the end we all leant back into the water, it was so cold!

Charlie: I really enjoyed the mine because you could observe all the ores.

Nathan: I am enjoying my experience so far. I went kayaking today. I was nervous that I would fall in at the start but in the end I get there!

Lewis: I have enjoyed Dol-Y-Moch so far and I have had a great experience trying new things.

Reuben: I was great at abseiling today so don’t worry because I am having a great time.

Leo: I loved kayaking today, but at the start I was nervous. Andria pushed us in the water. I was ok when we started paddling but then after I thought I was going to fall in because my elbow went in the water. I loved it when we played games like bull dog.

Jacob: Yesterday I failed miserably at making my bed. Today I really enjoyed kayaking in the river even though it was freezing. I can’t wait till the other activities.

Oliver: Dol-Y-Moch is AMAZING! I learnt how to work with others in a difficult situation.

Taylor: So far it has been wicked but the only thing I haven’t enjoyed about it has been making my bed, I loved the activities we did today, I found crabs, prawns and krill!

Cameron: Within the first hour, I was lost in my task of finding our way back to Dol-Y-Moch house from 2 miles away! Lol But we found our way back eventually!

Mason: Today, team B got a bit wet because we went to the lake just behind the main house. We canoed, played bulldog and threw a ball across the canoes in the water. I have great friends and I am sharing a room with them!

Amaan: I don’t like the mine because I had to trek through the water and I got water in my boots. I have made my bed.

Mr. Darnley: I've had a fantastic day at the beach and adventure walk. The children were full of enthusiasm and were determined to succeed. Nothing was stopping them! What a great day!

Gemma: It has been a brilliant day! Children have worked really well together, doing themselves proud.

Bed making!

Hi all! First challenge of the day was making their own beds, a difficult task for many as some didn't quite know what to do with the duvet cover. We have collected our equipment for the forthcoming activities and had hot chocolate and biscuits! Now it's time for lights out for an action packed day tomorrow! Mr. D

Dissection of heart and lungs!

6JD had the fantastic opportunity to dissect a heart and lungs in order to consolidate their learning about the Human Body. It was great that we were all able to identify all the key features of the organs of which were studied prior to the activity. Year 6 were brave, sensible, mature and were able to carry out the activity with a focus of developing their understanding if the organs.
